Learning a new skill

Just a cute picture of Will:-)
The knit stitch
The elusive (for me until today) purl stitch:-)
For the past month I have been teaching myself to crochet, and it has worked pretty well. My grandmother taught me the basics when I was 8, but I could never get past the slip stitch and making chains. I watched a few YouTube videos and that really helped, as well as buying a learn to crochet book. I made scarves and hats and gave them as Christmas gifts. Emma came home from church a few weeks ago and was learning how to knit. I admit, this is something I have always wanted to do but never succeeded when I tried to learn the first time, even with the YouTube videos. I bought a book which was more confusing than not and watched a few more videos and finally learned casting on and the knit stitch, but could not for the life of me learn the purl stitch. ( For those of you who do not understand a word of what I am saying, just stay with me a little bit longer:-) Today I was finally able to conquer the purl stitch:-) Up above is the proof:-) And yay for me--I have blogged everyday this week and everyday of the new year:-)

Very cool! I have a friend who taught herself to knit and is now learning how to crochet. I admire such craftiness that I do not have. :)

Oh, and you are ahead of me in the blogging department. :)

That's because in addition to 4 kids you also have a full time job! I admire you so much with all you find time to do:-)

Good girl on the purl stitch! It actually is kind of my favorite stitch. I tried to teach myself to knit and ended up having my younger sister teach me. It was so much easier that way. Although, I will refer you to the website for lots of helpful knitting tutorials. And free projects! I do use circular needles for hats. You can also use double pointed, but if you're starting out, just stick with circular. Much easier. When I get stuck, YouTube is the best for figuring out what to do next. Or how to do something. Keep at it!

I can't, for the life of me, crochet! I did get a "I taught myself to crochet" book for Christmas. We'll see how that goes. Right now, I'm so behind on my knitting!
